radia

Radia is an international, informal network of Radio stations who produce, share and broadcast radio art works. Since it's inception in 2005 it has promoted a weekly radio art program, each station taking tuns in asking an artist of it's choice to produce a radio art piece to be broadcast in all the network stations. Besides this ongoing effort, Radia stations also participate and produce radio art programs in the context of festivals and other contexts. More can be found about Radia in http://radia.fm and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radia.

In April 2017 there were 26 stations in the network, representing 17 different countries.

Show 556: Sounds of Between; J.B. Imbert for Radio Grenouille Sounds of Between Where are these sounds? Between the words. It is the chinks which we throw. They sometimes hide behind. The harmful garbage of our broadcasting. Microphone swallows sounds, all of them, the parasites, and in spite of our closed gates, it receives undesirables. Paul B. Preciado calls for the universal use of dildos in order to denaturalize sexuality, to infect it with a thing that is not a copy of a penis but an object that is both a way to appropriate the ass as the universal passive and non-reproductive organ that all people have and a way to multiply sexual acts, distributing them throughout the whole body. In this radio show, simply called “OM 29 – Co-Fi-Re (Conceptual Field Recording) 2”, I’ve tried to create an analogon to this notion of...

Her primary media were amateur radio broadcasts, Morse poetry, and sono-topographical scores. Via her broadcasts, which were frequently received by amateur radio operators as far afield as the United States and Europe, Munro initiated some of the earliest telematic performances, in which she would perform prepared violin in structured improvisations with other musicians...

Show 600: Special Collage by Chuse Fernandez (Tea FM) 600 is a wonderful number. Can you hear it? The Radia Network emerged from a series of meetings, clandestine events, late night club discussions and a lot of email exchanges between cultural radio producers across Europe. The topics vary and the reasons for forming a network are many, but Radia has become a concrete manifestation of the desire to use radio as an art form. The approaches differ, as do the local contexts; from commissioned...

Dreams usually reflect current concerns. They...

What better way to know James Joyce than his invented words. He was born in Rathgar, on the outskirts of Dublin, in 1882. Although he spent much of his life living and working on the continent — he died in Zurich, Switzerland, in 1941 — Joyce maintained close ties with Ireland, and used it as the setting for all of his major literary works, including  A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man  (1916),  Ulysses  (1922) and Finnegan’s Wake  (1939). Known for his playful and endlessly...

In this piece, 'Trajectory', devised by Milo Thesiger-Meacham, he and Patryk Gierczak very simply explore miscommunication. Recorded simultaneously in two separate studios, without any communication or forethought, this experiment relied only on the musicians being able to hear each other's sounds. Produced by Milo Thesiger-Meacham, in association with Resonance FM. Painting by Milo Thesiger-Meacham. Engineered by George Rayner-Law.
